Sheffield Emergency Dental Care

If you have chipped a tooth, been in an accident, require urgent denture repair or you’re experiencing excruciating tooth pain, you can contact Emergency Dentist of Grand Rapids to schedule an emergency booking with one of our same-day dentists. We plan our appointments in a manner that allows some wriggle room to attend to urgent problems. We will aim to schedule an appointment for you as soon as possible at our dental clinics in Sheffield MI.

Tooth pain is a terrible experience, and it can be extremely unbearable. We try our best to minimise the discomfort in the unlikely event that you have to wait for a dentist to see you.

An emergency dental care appointment still follows the same procedures – the dentist will examine your mouth, assess the problem and provide solutions. No matter what the dental repair requires, whether it be a filling or a veneer, our emergency dentists will assist you. Sometimes a referral to a specialist is required in the event that we can’t repair your dental injury, but prior to this, we will provide emergency dental treatment to settle any discomfort or sensitivity.

Emergency Dental FAQs

Is an emergency dentist the same as a general dentist?

In a sense, yes! General dentists are the most common type of dentists because they can treat patients of all ages. However, an emergency dentist is also like a general dentist! They undergo general dentistry training, as well as additional emergency training.

Most emergency dentists are actually general dentists who decided to take the extra training. General dentists, however, are typically staffed in practices, while emergency ones are in dental urgent cares or the emergency rooms of hospitals.

How soon do I need to visit the dentist?

The sooner, the better. Receiving prompt care is especially important if one of your teeth got knocked out; if you get help within an hour or so, it might be possible for your emergency dentist to splint it back in place. In other situations, such as if you lost a filling, you may be able to practice self-care for a day or two before you visit your dentist.

What if I Have a Toothache?

Dental pain can be very debilitating, to the point of keeping you up at night. This type of severe and constant pain can be the indicator of a dental infection. If your tooth is infected, it’s important to understand that you need to seek treatment right away because an infection won’t heal on its own.

A dental infection that is left untreated will progress and could spread to other critical areas of your body and could also affect other teeth. Root canal therapy may be able to preserve your tooth and eliminate the infection if you are proactive about seeking treatment.

What should I do if my tooth is broken or chipped?

For a broken or chipped tooth, patients are advised to save any of the fallen pieces before rinsing their mouth and the recovered pieces of the tooth with warm water. If there is bleeding, the patients should put a piece of gauze on the affected area until the bleeding stops. Patients can also apply a cold compress on the affected area to reduce swelling and relieve the pain before going to see the dentist.

What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is generally defined as intense pain, sudden swelling, or just a generally large amount of discomfort. This could be caused by a sudden injury or accident, or for some other unknown reason. Since dental problems rarely solve themselves, it often qualifies as a dental emergency, and you should immediately visit your dentist. Whether you have a severe toothache, have chipped your tooth, or are suffering from another form of a dental emergency, don’t hesitate to contact our practice in Gilbert so you can return to your pain-free life!

My child’s baby tooth is knocked out; what should I do?

You will need to contact an emergency dentist as soon as you can because you will need an experienced person to help you with this kind of situation. You should not try to replant a baby tooth because of the likelihood of damage while the tooth grows.

The American Dental Association reported that the number one cause of adult tooth damage every year is playing sports. This spans all types of athletics and creates the need for emergency appointments throughout Sheffield MI. Most adults don’t have the time to play for an organized league, even a casual one. This means that even a backyard game of basketball can lead to a tooth being damaged or knocked out. The same holds true for kids playing sports throughout the 49501 area. There are ways to protect yourself like wearing a mouth guard but when an emergency strikes call us today.

Car accidents are another leading cause of tooth injury. While the enamel on your teeth is strong, it may not be strong enough to prevent your tooth from breaking when colliding with the steering wheel. With millions of accidents a year, teeth are a common victim. We recommend that patients of Emergency Dentist of Grand Rapids get examined at a local emergency room after being in a car accident, just to make sure that they haven’t sustained any physical injuries. Afterwards, patients in the Sheffield MI area should call for a dentist appointment. The emergency room does not treat tooth damage, so you will need to see both types of medical providers.

Wikipedia

Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire, England, serving as the administrative centre of the City of Sheffield. The name derives from the River Sheaf which runs through the city. It is historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire and some of its southern suburbs, such as Mosborough, were transferred from Derbyshire to the city council. It is the largest settlement in South Yorkshire.

The city is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines and the valleys of the River Don with its four tributaries: the Loxley, the Porter Brook, the Rivelin and the Sheaf. Sixty-one per cent of Sheffield’s entire area is green space and a third of the city lies within the Peak District national park. There are more than 250 parks, woodlands and gardens in the city, which is estimated to contain around 4.5 million trees.

Sheffield played a crucial role in the Industrial Revolution, with many significant inventions and technologies having developed in the city. In the 19th century, the city saw a huge expansion of its traditional cutlery trade, when stainless steel and crucible steel were developed locally, fuelling an almost tenfold increase in the population. Sheffield received its municipal charter in 1843, becoming the City of Sheffield in 1893. International competition in iron and steel caused a decline in these industries in the 1970s and 1980s, coinciding with the collapse of coal mining in the area. The Yorkshire ridings became counties in their own right in 1889, the West Riding of Yorkshire county was disbanded in 1974. The city then became part of the county of South Yorkshire; this has been made up of separately-governed unitary authorities since 1986.

The 21st century has seen extensive redevelopment in Sheffield, consistent with other British cities. Sheffield’s gross value added (GVA) has increased by 60% since 1997, standing at £11.3 billion in 2015. The economy has experienced steady growth, averaging around 5% annually, which is greater than that of the broader region of Yorkshire and the Humber.

The city has a long sporting heritage and is home both to the world’s oldest football club, Sheffield F.C., and the world’s oldest football ground, Sandygate. Matches between the two professional clubs, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, are known as the Steel City derby. The city is also home to the World Snooker Championship and the Sheffield Steelers, the UK’s first professional ice hockey team.

Sheffield is situated 6 miles (9.7 km) south-west of Rotherham, 40 miles (64 km) east of Manchester, 38 miles (61 km) south of Leeds and 44 miles (71 km) north of Nottingham.

Sheffield had a population of 518,090 in the 2011 census, making it the second largest city in the Yorkshire and the Humber region. The Sheffield Built-up Area, of which the Sheffield sub-division is the largest part, had a population of 685,369 also including the town of Rotherham. The district borough, governed from the city, had a population of 584,853 at the mid-2019 estimate, making it the 3rd most populous district in England. It is one of eleven English cities that make up the Core Cities Group.[failed verification] In 2011, the unparished area had a population of 490,070.
